State Senator Len Suzio (R–Meriden) will be the recipient of the Motor Transport Association of Connecticut (MTAC) State Senator of the Year award, MTAC announced today. The State Senator of the Year award is an annual award presented to a member of the State Senate who supports public policy which allows the trucking industry to remain competitive in Connecticut.

“MTAC is pleased to recognize Senator Suzio with this award,” said MTAC President Joe Sculley. “He has done many things to push for positive changes in the business community in Connecticut. Specifically, Senator Suzio led the charge to defund the state’s mileage tax study, which ultimately became a strong bipartisan issue. That is important, because as the trucking industry knows, state mileage taxes are inequitable and are widely evaded. Putting the brakes on an inefficient tax is a positive development for the trucking industry in Connecticut.”

The award from MTAC to Senator Suzio will be presented to the Senator at MTAC’s Annual Meeting on October 26, 2017. The all-day MTAC annual meeting will feature an awards ceremony in the early afternoon, and Senator Suzio will be recognized in front of the MTAC membership then.

MTAC President Joe Sculley highlighted the importance of the trucking industry in Connecticut when discussing this award. “More than 85 percent of Connecticut communities depend exclusively on trucks to move their goods. There are more than 60,000 jobs in the trucking industry in Connecticut,” he stated. “The trucking industry plays a crucial role in the Connecticut economy. We thank Senator Suzio for listening to our message.”
