From WTNH News 8.

Ned Lamont spent Tuesday in Waterbury, touring areas slated for renewal and meeting voters at the Tower Grill.

He’s reaffirming his support for imposing trucker only tolls on Connecticut’s interstate highways to help pay for transportation improvements, saying it would be a way to ease the state into electronic tolls.

He added, “Little politically, easier to do. You can get that going faster. It would represent hundreds of millions of dollars a year to Connecticut.”

Lamont says it’s justifiable because heavy truck traffic creates the most wear and tear on roads and bridges. He said, “Those trucks devastate our roads. They create hundreds of times more maintenance and reconstruction issues than cars so it’s going to start with trucks and they’ll start paying their way.”
