This week, MTAC participated in a Teen Safe Driving event at Berlin High School, along with AAA. MTAC President Joe Sculley attended, along with Tony Spero from ABF Freight, and Roland Bolduc from FedEx, who both provided instructions to students about how to safely share the road with tractor trailers.

Tony Spero and Roland Bolduc used their company’s trucks to set up blind spot demonstrations. Multiple passenger vehicles were set up in blind spots and “no zones” surrounding each of the trucks. The students then sat in the truck’s driver seat to get the truck driver’s point of view. They saw that one or more cars in any blind spot cannot be seen by the driver, so accordingly, they should not hang out in the “no zone” while driving a passenger car.

In addition to the blind spot demonstration, the students learned about how trucks take wide turns, when to pass trucks safely, and to keep a safe following distance behind trucks.

MTAC appreciates the opportunity to work with AAA to teach young drivers about how to safely share the road with tractor trailers.
