Connecticut Capital

This week, MTAC President Joe Sculley testified before the Connecticut legislature’s Environment Committee in opposition to a carbon tax legislation.

He stated, “MTAC appreciates that proponents of this bill want to protect our environment, however, MTAC does not believe that this bill is necessary or practical. Major environmental policy is best left to the federal government, to ensure a “level playing field” so that states like Connecticut remain competitive. If this bill were to pass, it could very likely have the unintended consequence of driving fuel purchases, businesses, and jobs out of the state. The fact that Connecticut is geographically small would enable that.”

Expanding on the positive impact of federal environmental policy, Mr. Sculley noted the use: of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) technology beginning in 2002; ultra-low sulfur diesel beginning in 2006; and Diesel Particulate Filters beginning in 2007, all of which reduced NOx and Particulate Matter emissions. Mr. Sculley also discussed new technologies implemented in 2010, 2014, and more that will be introduced in 2018, all of which comply with US EPA and NHTSA regulations, and focus on improving fuel efficiency, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
