MTAC has received a number of questions related to permits, particularly for annual divisible load permits, that can be purchased from Connecticut DOT (ConnDOT).

ConnDOT has not suspended these permits, nor have they shut down the Oversize/Overweight (OS/OW) office. They are fully functioning and there is no lapse in service at their office.

Many (or most) DOT employees are telecommuting, but are reading and responding to e-mail and voice-mail messages within hours. If you have questions about permits, you can email DOT.OSOWPermits@ct.gov or call (860) 594-2805 and leave a voicemail. ConnDOT staff will respond with answers.

ConnDOT has also stated that they are accepting expired vehicle registrations (as long as they expired on or after March 10, 2020) when carriers notify them in the application comments section that registration has been delayed due to COVID-19, with the understanding the carriers will properly register the vehicles when DMV allows.

Finally, members are under no obligation to renew any permits right now if they are not conducting business and thus can’t take advantage of the permits. In the future, members can apply for permits whenever they are needed, whether it’s monthly or annual permits for divisible loads, or annual or pro-rated permits for indivisible loads.
